LEARN+Plant+Grow Everything you need to Grow YOUR OWN Vegetables

It’s no secret that the cost of food continues to rise—but together, we can explore simple, meaningful ways to respond. One excellent option is vegetable gardening right at home. Gardening not only helps stretch your food budget, but it also provides fresh air, gentle exercise, and the joy of nurturing something from seed to table. This practice fosters healthy habits and a deeper appreciation for fresh, nourishing food.

Our raised bed demonstration gardens at the Harold Young, Sr. Parklet on Penn Avenue serve as a welcoming space for community advancement, learning, and inspiration. Filled with vegetables, herbs, and flowers, these gardens offer visitors a chance to see what’s possible and gather ideas for their own home gardens.

Whether you’re just getting started or looking to grow more, we’re here to grow together. Don't forget to visit the Wilkinsburg Thursday Market for additional resources and fresh produce!

Mid-June - Mid-October WILKINSBURG THURSDAY MARKET

LEARN+Plant+Grow Everything you need to Grow YOUR OWN Vegetables

LEARN+Plant+Grow Everything you need to Grow YOUR OWN Vegetables

The Wilkinsburg Thursday Market serves as a vibrant weekly community gathering space that promotes community advancement by connecting residents with fresh local produce, small businesses, and essential health resources.

During the 2025 season, more than 4,200 attendees visited over 20 market days, where approximately 17,000 servings of locally grown produce were distributed. Additionally, 32 local businesses participated, offering items for purchase while sharing valuable information about healthy living and community resources.

Produce is available on a "pay what you can" basis, and SNAP benefits are accepted through our partnership with Just Harvest, making it accessible for all. Foundation grants, sponsorships, and individual donations support market operations and the procurement of fresh produce from local family-owned farms.

Would you like to be a vendor or a volunteer at the 2026 market? Email us at wilkinsburgthursdaymarket2@gmail.com.

We welcome BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ vendors, encouraging diverse participation and fostering community advancement through inclusive opportunities. Additionally, those interested in vegetable gardening can find resources and support at the market.
